The Love Story
Eren and Tom first met in the summer of 2009 while Eren was interviewing for a job at Al Anderson Memorial Pool. Eren forgot to bring a whistle, so she asked the receptionist if she could borrow one. Tom just so happened to be eating his lunch in the break room. Hearing a damsel in distress he immediately rushed to her aid.
“You can borrow my whistle if you’d like.” He said to her.
“Thanks,” She replied.
Eren succeeded in her interview and was hired at the pool. However, their relationship did not begin to blossom until the summer of 2011. Tom had recently returned from a 3-month grand tour of Europe. He was newly single and strutting around the pool with his long, golden locks. How could she resist.
During one of the training sessions at the pool, all the staff members were sitting around a table. Tom was blabbing away, as usual, until his eyes met with Eren’s. He had known her for a few years, but it was like he was seeing her for the first time. He was hooked. There was no use to it. His hopes for a summer of a single life were over.
It just so happened that they were given the same schedule several weeks in a row. It was spring and love was definitely in the air. Their “friendship” quickly developed into romance, or so he thought. There was one major problem, Eren had a boyfriend! Never to bow away from a challenge, this only spurred the young Romeo onward and upward. He continued to work out a lot, work on his tan, and work on his muscles. If he was going to lure the donkey away from the farmer, the carrot had to be irresistible (on a side note, Eren really loves Tom’s strange metaphors).
One Saturday night, the pool staff was planning a trip to Gabby’s Country Cabaret. Usually, Tom would steer clear of this place. It is dingy, sweaty, and he hates country music. But, he had a purpose in mind, Eren.
To win her over, he would have to face one of his worst fears head on, he would have to go clubbing. So, like any young gentleman looking to court a fair maiden, he slicked back his hair into a ponytail, put on a tight t-shirt and went into one of the worst places Langley has to offer. He wandered around getting strange looks from cowboys, cougars, and crackpots, until he saw her.
It was worth it. She was standing there nursing a long island iced-tea, with a black top, short skirt, and red shoes that made her legs go from here to eternity. They danced the night away until it was time to go home. Being the perfect gentleman that Tom is, he offered to drive the young lady. She consented. Once he pulled up to her driveway they began to talk. They talked into the wee hours of the night. He knew she was the one.
Over the next couple weeks they began to hang out a lot. They spent a lot of time just talking, eating ice cream, and combing each other’s beautiful blonde hair. Finally, Eren broke up with her boyfriend. Now Tom is not known for his patience, but he decided to give her time. He gave her two weeks before he made any of his moves. Being the romantic that he is, Tom took Eren out to the most romantic place he could think of, the Twilight Drive-In in Aldergrove. There, to the sounds of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, they kissed for the first-time. Now, Tom had been telling everyone that this was going to be just a summer fling; he wasn’t ready to settle down just yet. After that kiss he knew it was game over.
They kissed for quite awhile. Being of strong Anglo-Saxon descent, Tom had a bit of thick stubble on his face. Let’s just say Eren had to tell people she fell and scraped her chin on some concrete for the next few weeks. Little did she know, that Tom had already told all his buddies that their night of “passion” had made Eren’s chin look like she dried off her face with sandpaper.
And that’s how their relationship was formed. They both knew within the week that what they had was much more than a fling, and much more than either of them had ever experienced before. When Eren went away for 5 weeks to Costa Rica and Australia in the fall, Tom nearly went insane. He spent his time running around forests dressed as a fairy in pink tights, there’s even video footage. Thankfully, she returned and they spent the next year enjoying each other’s company until Tom was ready to propose!

Thoughts from the photographer
Owl & Fox Studios: We have been so excited to share this wedding, and poured over them as if they were our own! It’s not just because we took the photos- but this wedding was so personal, that we felt we walked away knowing we were apart of something really special, something extremely monumental. Eren & Tom’s wedding day story had us in tears… usually, I cry maybe once or twice, but this time I cried at least six times. It’s hard not to want to change when you encounter love so pure- from both of the families, friends, and Tom & Eren.
Owl & Fox Studios: The details of day were very beautiful – hints of purple, and a midsummer nights dream decor theme gave way to a wonderful evening. The vision came from Tom and Eren, and was implemented by the Vintage Sisters (Tom’s Sisters!). Well done to them for such amazing wedding decor- every last detail was so beautiful!
Owl & Fox Studios: We could go over the details of the day over and over, but what has stuck with us the most was seeing Eren’s step dad come into the room after she had put her dress on. From the moment he saw her, the raw emotion that overcame him (and everybody else watching) gave witness to the beauty of love. Tom’s dad expressing his pleasure over his son, “Tom, my son, in whom I am well pleased.” There is nothing like a father’s love. There is nothing like a family’s support. And there is really nothing else like friends like Tom’s and Eren’s.
