Love story

From the couple (Weiting + KC): We met at a gathering held by some common friends. At the time we first met, Weiting just returned to Asia from L.A., and KC was just about to leave to study abroad.  We exchanged contact but never really got to know each other well.

Two years later, we met again, and this time we started to share more about ourselves and realized that we had many interests in common. KC majored in Math but he loves Arts, and Weiting was working in the Art industry.  We got so attracted to each other and started our long-distance relationship.

Our long-distance love lasted for 3 years.  We kept contact everyday through Skype and lots of mobile messages. We promised each other that if we ever get into conflicts, we must solve the problem and stop fighting within a day. We also tried our best to see each other at least once a month.  Although distance was a challenge, we managed to keep our relationship simple and natural, and grew together through this journey of love.

Proposal story

From the Bride (Weiting): It was a cold Christmas around -2 degrees in North Carolina, KC had a crave for Ice cream and wanted to visit the Maple View Farm.

When we arrived, he told me he had stomach problem and had to go to the bathroom. He went many times back and forth, to a point that I got really worried and suggested maybe we should go see a doctor, but all our other friends told me to calm down and that he would be ok.

When i was having ice cream while waiting for him, I heard music coming from behind. When  I turned around I saw KC all dressed up, singing and walking towards me, with a bunch of other friends behind him.  I was extremely shocked because I had absolutely no clue about his proposal plans. He played a short video with blessings from my friends back home, and gave a romantic, sincere speech.  I was very touched by everything he had done for me, and said “Yes”!

Wedding planning priorities

Weiting + KC: Our number one goal was to HAVE FUN! The wedding day is a celebration of love, so we thought we wanted it to be full of joy so everyone can really enjoy it (and feel free to go crazy)! We also wanted our wedding to be a heart-warming party.

We planned our wedding overseas, and started the planning process about a year ago.  Planning from abroad was a big challenge, but overall it went very well, and we are so grateful that our family and friends made it happen for us.

Time management

Weiting + KC: Time management and vendor selection were the most important things to us. In order to make sure we had enough time to take photos with our guests, we set a more relaxed schedule.  The Bride only prepared 2 gowns so we could save some “changing” time. We also found a wedding coordinator, so that we could enjoy the day without worrying about getting things ready here and there.

Vendor selection

Weiting + KC: Weiting is an artist so she paid lots of attention on details and the overall wedding design.  We did lots of research before we selected our vendors.  For example, when we were searching for a photographer, we knew we wanted someone who’s good at image composition, light control, and story-telling. We hired Roger Wu because he’s great in all aspects, and we especially loved his ability to capture natural interaction between people.

We would suggest other couples to go through each vendor’s Facebook to observe the way the vendor communicates with clients.  Communication skill and attitude are also very important.

Favorite details

Weiting + KC: The way our guests participated was our favorite part of the day! At first we thought our relatives would be too shy to join the dance part, but they all particpated with so much energy and passion!

Most memorable moment

Weiting + KC: The weather forecast predicted it was going to rain all week, and it did rain all week until the day before our wedding.  When we had our ceremony outdoors, it turned into a beautiful sunny day! We felt like it was a blessing from the Bride’s father who had passed away.

Thoughts from the photographer

Roger Wu: At a moment, I really believed that Weiting’s father was there with us.

When we turned off the lights and put up a photo of a man holding a newborn baby on the projector display, I thought to myself “so this is Weiting’s dad”. My heart was filled with emotions, and I knew that he was there with us, living in Weiting and her mom’s hearts.

I love how there were lots of precious emotions found in this wedding, including the crying groomsmen and the singing bridesmaids, everything was so real and full of love.
