The Love Story
From the Groom, Liam: We met each other on the very first couple of days when Olina arrived campus for the beginning of her freshman year at the Rutherford library of University of Alberta. At the shared table in the common study area, I had the very first glance of her face. I didn’t believe love for the first sight, but that moment, it was the clearest image of her face that will surely last forever. We got together 3 months later in the morning of Dec 25th – the Christmas of 2009. After discovered more and more things we adored from each other. Knot tied.
Wedding Planning Priorities
From the Couple, Olina & Liam: Finding a decent planning company was one of our top priorities, since we were abroad. What was important to us about our wedding was definitely not how beautiful the wedding will look like, but details put together that will make every one of our guests feel comfortable as a whole, and enjoy everything we created.
Planning Details
From the Planner, Joanna: It was an elegant wedding that emphasized on rustic elements. The total cost of the wedding was around fifty thousand for 22 guests including catering, venue&boat rental, planning and decoration, etc. The most incredible thing was that it was supposed to be raining on that day, but it cleared up an hour before the guests arrival. The nice weather helped us made this beautiful outdoor wedding came true for this lucky couple.
Most Memorable Moment of the Big Day
From the Groom, Liam: For sure when I’m taking her hand over from my father-in-law! He was holding up his tears, and I was expecting him to give me a tough moment!
Advice to Other Couples Planning Their Day
Olina & Liam: Don’t be stressed! Your day will be perfect and special anyways! Our planner was better help than our own hands. Make your planner happy as you want for anyone else.
Challenges
Olina & Liam: It was challenging when we were abroad and had to discuss every detail with our planner, Joanna, with 15 hour time difference. And we could only hope the best to come out. Joanna didn’t let us down.
Joanna: The time difference was the biggest challenge. Transportation for the vendors was also a challenge, because the wedding was on an independent private island, and all the vendors had to use small transportation to bring everything to the island. I had to arrange the transportation and arrival time for different vendors properly in order to make their work efficient.
Thoughts From the Photographer
Denise Lin Photography: I photographed Olina and Liam’s engagement photo session before their wedding day. During the photo session, I got to talk with them about their style, habits, and plans for their wedding day. I also observed how they acted together and what they wore to know their vision more.
Photographing Olina and Liam’s wedding was like going on a small get-away trip. We first went on a boat to the island, enjoyed the beautiful view of Vancouver on the boat. Grey cloud faded away; blue sky and sunshine showed up. This wedding was a very intimate one with a small amount of guests and family members. It was relaxing and enjoyful.
The rustic floral design by Balconi Floral Design Studio was the key element of the wedding. The most unforgettable moment was during the ceremony, when Olina and Liam were saying the vows to each other. A moment that touched me the most was when Olina’s dad walked her down the aisle. He was in tears with excitement and happiness.
