Cultural differences and distance are major challenges faced by many couples, and the only way to overcome these obstacles is to stand firm in love. Moe & Suguru came from Hong Kong and Japan, and walked through 4 yerars of up and downs together before they tied the knot. They believe that there is no shortcut to happily-ever-after, and that true love needs to be maintained carefully with a willingness to give unconditionally.
Moe & Suguru’s wedding is a sweet combination of Japanese, Chinese, and Western traditions. It is downright darling from start to finish with lots of lovely details and heartwarming moments all captured perfectly by Kong Wai of History Studio. Join us as we share this beautiful affair.
The love story
From the Bride (Moe): We’ve known each other for 5 years and dated for 4 years. In the beginning, I acted quite cold to this Japanese man and had no special interest in him, and we still find it quite amazing how we ended up falling in love with each other. We’ve experienced so many up and downs together throughout these 4 years. He is a very humourous man, and also extremely patient. His love and kindness truly touched my heart many times.
Many people would think that a Chinese x Japanese wedding must be very hard to organize, but we both kept a very positive attitude, which made everything a lot easier.
We believe that love needs to be maintained and taken care of, you really need to invest your time and pour out your hearts in order to keep a healthy and lasting relationship. When you give unconditionally, the other person will respond and feel the love. I am lucky to find a man who can be my best friend, soul mate, lover, and husband, and I know we will walk through everything together, never let go of each other, and always be each other’s best support.
The venue
Moe: We knew we wanted a rustic grass field wedding because we both love outdoors and sunshine. We browsed through many real weddings and inspiration, and finally decided to have a western style wedding.
Design & planning
Moe: I LOVE fresh flowers, so floral decoration was without a doubt one of the first wedding design decisions I made. My favorite color is green, so we decided to use green as the theme color. We also gave special attention to small details including designs, stationery, apparel, and decoration.
I am an event planner, and I knew clearly the styles I wanted for my wedding, so the decision-making process was quite smooth. For example, after i saw Kong Wai’s work on his website (History Studio) and met with him for the first time, I’ve decided he was the photographer we were looking for. I think his style, especially when he shoots outdoors, is truly outstanding. His photos are natural with the perfect balance of light and contrast.
Wedding planning details
Number of guests: 120
Wedding theme: Outdoor rustic
Palette: Green x White
Most memorable moments: The ceremony basically followed the Japanese traditions where we invited our parents, best friends, and senior coworkers to give speeches. The speeches not only touched our hearts, but also got our guests in tears.
Near the end, we played a secret video made by the groom’s sister. She couldn’t make it to the wedding due to health concerns, so she shared her blessings through this special video. Suguru loves his sister very much and they’ve always been very close since childhood. Tears started running down his cheeks when he saw the video. It was a very emotional and loving moment we will never forget.
Thoughts from the bride
Moe:This was my ideal, dream wedding. We only had 3 months to prepare everything, and we are very satisfied with the outcome. The wedding was simple, intimate, and full of love. All the guests were touched and gave us positive feedback afterwards saying that it was an unforgettable wedding.
I believe that love is what really makes a wedding beautiful. The love and blessings from family and friends are the most valuable gifts, and the most significant purpose of “weddings”.
