Chemistry of love
Kathleen & Zhiwei: We met in university through a good friend and instantly hit it off. We shared plenty of chemistry and could spend hours talking over coffee. Those times were perhaps the fondest memory of us falling in love.
Proposal story
From the Bride (Kathleen): We dated for 5 years before we got engaged. I knew he was up to something when he took me on a spa getaway. It was as if I could read his mind but I played along. It was too sweet and I didn’t want to ruin his efforts. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly nevertheless and when he finally popped the question, I said yes!
Wedding planning priorities
Kathleen & Zhiwei: Our guests were definitely our first priority! In fact, everyone who played a part in the wedding was important to us. We wanted to keep the wedding simple and make sure that our guests can really have a great time.
Apart from that, we were also concerned about having everything on time. Like most Chinese weddings, we had to follow traditions like fetching the bride, where the groom visits the bride’s place early in the morning to play some games, known as the ‘gate-crash’, and finally ‘fetch the bride’ to his place. We also had a tea ceremony where the bride and groom serve tea to their elders. In the evening, we had our marriage solemnized before the wedding banquet. And all of that has already been simplified!
Advice to other couples planning their day
Kathleen & Zhiwei: Don’t fret over trivial matters! Yes, you will be tired, and there are things that might go wrong, but no one will blame you for that! Have lots of fun because you’ll only get to experience this together once.

Most special thought: the day really marked the beginning of our lives together and we’ve been waiting for this for a long time.
A joyful and unforgettable experience
Kathleen & Zhiwei: The wedding turned out better than we expected! It was really heartwarming to watch our loved ones beamed from ear to ear as we walked down the aisle, our bridesmaids laughing alongside our groomsmen and photographers and videographers putting in their best efforts. It made us very happy!
Thoughts from the photographer
Bloc Memoire: It was a privilege for us to be part of Kathleen & Zhiwei’s intimate wedding. Everyone was having an awesome time during the ‘gate-crash’ where the groom and his brothers had to overcome some challenges before fetching the bride. The bridesmaids had so much fun “torturing” them!
