What is life without love? And what is love without giving? Five yeras ago, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook Haiti, leaving much of the proverty-stricken nation in shambles. 500,000+ people were injured or killed in the quake and an estimated 5,000 schools were destroyed. Students were left without a place to read, learn, and grow; and five years later, still gather in an inadequate facility.
The School Sessions is a one-day event across the globe on Sunday, April 12, 2015 to raise US $200,000 to build a school in Haiti. Photographers can sign up online to shoot one (or more!) portrait sessions on April 12th and donate 100% of session fees to The School Sessions! Read on for more information on how to give love by using your gifts! Join this amazing cause!
About the School
E.C.C.A. School (Ecole Chretienne du Centre de L’Agneu) was founded in 2007 by Mr. Duckenson and Mrs. Francois Laguerre.
Five years ago, a horrific earthquake completely destroyed their building (along with thousands of other schools) but the Laguerres continued to teach, allowing many kids to attend their programs for free.
Laguerre remembers, “In spite of our building being destroyed, parents sent their kids to our school. We asked why they chose ECCA, they said: ‘You inspire in us faith, hope and a future for our children.’”
The Building
The School Sessions is raising $200,000 to buy land and fund construction of a ten-classroom, concrete, earthquake and hurricane-proof building. Our partner organization, Hope Force International, will be managing all funds and working with a local contractor on the project.
What if I’m not available to shoot on April 12? Can I still be involved?
Yes! Let your clients know their session is part of “The School Sessions” and have them donate 100% of their session fee through our website. Please schedule the session before April 12, so all money can be received by that date.
The Founders of the Project
Jamie Delaine and Randy Watson are newlyweds, passionate about helping others. Since their first date, Jamie and Randy have been dreaming of ways to combine their talents (photography, business, construction and leadership) and passions to make a difference in the world around them. Out of this vision, The School Sessions was born. Watch their video to learn more.
Why invest in education in Haiti?
Close to 50% of the 10 million people living in Haiti are under the age of 18. Almost half of those children don’t attend school, which means almost 2.5 million children are not being educated. Education to a child in Haiti means a hope for the future!
Where can I follow progress of the school building?
After all funds have been raised, construction of the school will start. Progress can be followed on our facebook page, instagram or by signing up for our email newsletter.
