Simply Sweet Photography captured this styled shoot with a beautiful vision. Read on for stories and ideas behind this lovely masterpiece.
Thoughts from the designer
Roa Designs: Amelia Earhart was a powerful woman whose courage, persistence, and goal-oriented nature continues to inspire others to this day. As bold and daring as she was, she remained feminine, charming, and had a softness to her which made her so endearing. The act of flying represents freedom, independence, and liberation – all things that Amelia Earhart embodied throughout her life and career.
Sentiments associated to love resemble that of a dream; having your head in the clouds whenever you’re with that special someone. And thus, the ‘Fly Away With Me’ theme emerged. It combines elements of Amelia Earhart’s personal qualities and spirit, with the dreamy notion of being swept off our feet feeling like you’re on cloud nine – while still staying grounded in real love – apparent throughout.
Being able to bring together a group of passionate artists and designers who are masterful at their craft and produce great work was remarkable. It truly made this styled shoot like no other.
Design and Styling Inspiration
Roa Designs: With themes of aviation and flying high in the sky in mind, it felt natural for there to be ‘sky blue’ along with other soft shades of blue present in the spread. In the spirit of Amelia Earhart’s historical time, we wanted to incorporate a vintage, rustic, earthy feel to it (hence the bit of brown to go with the blue), while keeping it elegant and classy (with the silver and gold touches).
To set the scene, we chose Mode Studios/Sky Helicopters as our venue. We wanted the helicopter positioned in the background so it’s not too overbearing, combined with objects and props to complete the picture.
The suitcase symbolizes the act of traveling with other accessories that stay within the theme of flight such as spectacles and books – all great things to take with you while traveling.
To top it off, in order to capture the dreamy nature of Akisawa’s photography, we wanted it to have a fairytale vibe. We accomplished this through the elegance and effervescence of the silver and gold, candles, and bouquet to complement the stunning bride.
About the Photographer – Nomo Akisawa of Simply Sweet Photography
Nomo Akisawa of Simply Sweet Photography is a professional wedding and portrait photographer hailing from Maple Ridge in beautiful British Columbia. Two things inspire her work:
1) In life, it is important to capture as many of the steps in between as possible in order to fully appreciate the entire journey.
2) In love, there are countless kinds of relationship dynamics to recognize and convey through purposeful photography.
Akisawa’s style has been described as romantic, whimsical, elegant, and soft. One word that captures her overall aesthetic: dreamy. When it comes to photographing couples, she draws from her natural hopeless romantic self to help her zoom in on the key moments shared by every couple in front of her.
