We love creative wedding cakes! Simple, delicious cakes that scream style. Today we are proud to introduce to you a talented cake designer, Anna Elizabeth. Anna’s cake designs are artistic, unique, and stylish. Enjoy our interview with Anna and check out her awesome work below.
Praise: How did everything get started?
Anna: I actually studied science at university, but found that I was really missing a creative outlet in my life. I ended up enrolling in pastry school and really found pastry to be the perfect combination of science and art. There’s the methodical and scientific side of creating the perfect cake and balance of flavors and then the detail oriented and artistic flair behind the perfect cake design. After completing my pastry training, I knew I wanted to focus on cake and so I traveled across the country to learn from two of Canada’s top cake artisans in Toronto. It was here that I really honed my skills and discovered how endless the possibilities are when it comes to cake design. After returning to Vancouver, I enrolled in art school. It is this training in design principles, drawing and painting that have really allowed me to put my own spin on cake design, bringing fresh ideas and unique creations to the Vancouver cake scene. I love making big, multi-tiered cakes and really artistic creations which are more suited to the size and budgets of weddings.
Praise: Share your favourite cake design with us!
Anna: There is always something to be said for a really simple, clean, well designed cake. This cake below was for the Vancouver wedding of Bon Jovi’s former manager and is another of my favorites. The bride wanted something traditional, in ivory and black and this is what we came up with – throwing in a bit of a modern twist with the short black tier in the centre. All of the roses were handcrafted out of sugar and the “P & P” monogram was hand painted right onto the cake.
Praise: What are your favourite design elements?
Anna: Handcrafted sugar flowers are one of my favorite design elements. It can also be fun to incorporate flowers that are oversized or in untraditional colours. A and J’s cake above was inspired by the fabric draping and folds of Vera Wang dresses combined with the wedding theme colour of purple. I think this cake perfectly reflected the fun loving and bubbly couple.
Praise: What factors help you to design the best custom cakes for different clients?
Anna: I love when a client comes in with loads of inspiration and trusts me as the professional to design the perfect cake for them. Once I have an idea of the style of the event, personality of the couple, and their personal style, it is easy to draw up the perfect cake!
Praise: What do you enjoy most about your career in the wedding industry?
Anna: I really enjoy being able to work with so many other talented wedding professionals in Vancouver – I am never at a loss for inspiration! Every cake I make is a custom creation and will never be recreated, so your cake is totally unique to you.
Anna mostly works with Vancouver brides, but may be available for national or international weddings. Find Anna and her latest work online!
