Sweet Aria celebrated her first birthday with a festive whimsical garden themed party, planned and styled to perfection by Cindy and Barb of Serendipity Event Planners. The joyful party theme was designed to reflect Aria’s passionate, sunshine personality. The stunning decoration, lovely dessert table, fun activities, amazing entertainers, and beautiful handcrafted details truly brought the theme to life. Party planning and design inspiration
Cindy of Serendipity Event Planners: This event was very special to us, because it was held in honor of my daughter’s first birthday. Aria has an amazing personality and is a ray of sunshine in our lives, so we wanted the party to reflect that. We wanted the decor to be colorful, whimsical, and to amaze guests as they entered the party.
Before the party, we had a “Cake Smash” photo shoot with Desy from RF Weddings. We picked our favorite images and turned them into canvases to display at the entrance of the party.
The main inspiration of the party was to create a “whimsical garden”. The room was generously decorated with different sizes, prints, and colors of pinwheels, and pennants that were equally as beautiful. The brighter and bolder, the better! For centerpieces, pinwheels were planted in galvanized watering cans or milk jugs.
Food and Desserts
Serendipity Event Planners: The food was well planned out with two excellent caterers. We made sure not to serve the typical children’s party fare by providing healthy and delicious options instead. There were lemon grass rice paper rolls, 17 spice beef short ribs, and fire grilled prawns just to name a few dishes.
The dessert table was a definite favorite of the over 100 guest party. There was a variety of pies, cakes, doughnuts, caramel apples, and cookies to satisfy any sweet tooth. The design behind this set up was more decadent than the rest of the decor. We used white cake stands, tiers and plates that had differing designs, shapes and sizes. A light pink linen and white lace overlay adorned the table with the delicious treats. As well, guests were amused by the hand-spun cotton candy.
The cake was a beautiful three tiered show piece. The white fondant creation had multiple layers of ruffles which was accented by a handmade mini pennant at the top.
Fun Entertainers
Serendipity Event Planners: A variety of entertainers were hired to delight both kids and adults. A fairy played dress up and danced all through the party with adoring little guests following behind, and the Easter bunny made an appearance to hand out little treats. A popular balloon artist clown amazed everyone with his twisty creations. He formed simple balloons into large palm trees, airplanes and even Elmo on a motorcycle!
Thoughts from the planners
Serendipity Event Planners: The entire party from beginning to end was a labour of love. The majority of the decor was handmade by family and friends that spent many hours assembling the pinwheels. In total, over 600 pinwheels were made! The effort and love everyone put into making this happen is truly amazing.

No expenses are spared in these extravagant celebrations. Even the cake is top of the line along with a photo session to smash it up. Activities like this help to have all the guests engaged. When every guest has has either a drink or fistful of cake in hand, you know you’re having a great time.
Our team doesn’t usually do birthday parties. In some ways, we think it’s unnecessary to have a production team like RF for a birthday party. That is unless, of course, the client wants no compromises. In that case, “unnecessary” can be appropriate when you hold nothing back. We like to believe that’s what Serendipity Planners were thinking when they organized this event: “hold nothing back”. This is definitely how you would plan the most magical and amazing birthday party for a kid.
