Many of us love styled shoots because there are lots of pretty ideas for us to get inspired, but if you think inspiration is all there is to a styled shoot, today’s post will show you something new. Jodi & Jake’s vintage styled shoot, captured and designed by Alabaster Jar Photography, brought us some sweet surprises. Other than the beautiful settings, wonderful models, gorgeous designs, and amazing photos, this styled shoot is also about finding one’s identity, value, and faith. Read on as we share the beautiful work by Alabaster Jar Photography, along with the stories behind this styled shoot.
Thoughts from the model bride
Jodi: My first thought when I was asked to be a part of this styled shoot, was ‘absolutely not!‘ I was too shy, not pretty enough, not a good fit…. but as the pieces started to fall into place, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with how much God loved me. So much so, that He had planned this styled shoot to take away my fear and lack of self-confidence, and to show me just how much I was worth.
Right down to the white dress. There has been a lie, firmly planted in my beliefs that said “I would never be able to wear a white dress”. We were sent 2 dresses. I’m a size 5. Dress #1 was a size 6 and off-white. Dress #2 a size 8 and beautifully white. To my surprise, dress number 1 didn’t fit at all when logically, it should have. And as I headed to a beautiful wedding shoot, designed in my favourite colours, photographed by 2 of my favourite people and a groom who made me laugh the whole day, I couldn’t help but cry, knowing God was revealing just how much He adores His daughter.
Thoughts from the photographer
Alabaster Jar Photography: This shoot couldn’t have gone any better than it did. Jodi and Jacob, our two models, had never met but you would guess that they’ve been in love since childhood. The laughter just came naturally.
We wanted something simple and classic. We wanted to create a shoot that didn’t have the glam and glitz of a million dollar wedding, but the intimacy and class of a small Sunday Brunch. In this day and age, it seems like everyone spends millions on the wedding but forgets why they got together in the first place, to celebrate two people spending the rest of their lives together. We just wanted to show that sometimes simple can be just as beautiful!
The details
Alabaster Jar Photography: On the day of the shoot, the sun was blazing and it was a perfect day for a “wedding”. Burlap began to wrap around the chairs, teas went in to their rightful slot and the bees began to buzz. Everything just came together so perfectly! The mint bike, tea favours, burlap bows, mint and gold cake, UNBELIEVABLY amazing donuts (seriously it’s worth a 100 hour drive to try these things) and all the fine details just brought everything together in a perfect package.
We brought in some great old cameras to bring some character to our antique pastry table and the Ontario Primers and other 1930/40s schools books made for perfect accents! Our pancake bar managed to stand up under the tremendous heat and hungry bugs! Our invitations and menus were designed by Jessica from Alabaster Jar, incorporating some fun fonts and of course mint and gold.
The Setting
Alabaster Jar Photography: Our incredible farm was the perfect setting. The long grass settled for the shoot allowing us to move around, our tree held firm with our candelabra hanging in the tree along with our small lanterns and of course the farm is equipped with a Notebook style swing!
Spring had finally sprung in Ontario and with that our tree came into full blossom two days before the shoot, and two days after the shoot they were gone!
Pretty much everything in the shoot was found at a garage sale, salvation army, value village or side of the road! We spent weeks and weeks sifting through gold plates, tea cups and saucers and old bottles.

The duo photography team is from a small town just outside of Kingston. Originally the company started just outside Toronto, but September of last year they found themselves in the outskirts of Kingston, surrounded by fluorescent orange, camouflage and cows.
Small towns have proven to be a gold mine for amazing finds at garage sales, beautiful farms for shoots and so much more. Allicia and Jessica love all things vintage, mint, and gold. Their heart is to bless families, couples, and individuals through photography. They love what they do, and they hope you see that and feel that as soon as you shake their hand.
