Praise Wedding: Tell us a little bit about you! What inspired you to design wedding dresses?
Zahavit Tshuba: I love to think differently and bring new ideas to my work. As a fashion designer who grew up in my parents’ clothing and textile factory, I had the chance to feel the fabrics, to create and to sew by myself from a very young age.
During those years, I noticed that people love to follow fashion trends, but only the minority of them would dare to wear something new and outstanding, especially when it comes to the bridal dresses.
My goal is to design a fresh and different collection for brides, which won’t be extremely far from the traditions, but reflects something new and unique. This collection is for brides who want to wear a chic and fashionable dress with unexpected elements to show their free spirit personality.
My basic inspiration was taken from the bohemian lifestyle which is not limited to any place or time. It’s a new way of living, free of traditional habits, where a combination between glam and simplicity creat a special look. I am also inspired by the old Italian and French films from the 70’s, which also in many ways reflect the bohemian lifestyle. We try to bring this atmosphere to our collection.
Praise Wedding: How would you describe your aesthetic and style?
Zahavit Tshuba: We are trying to bring something fresh and unique to the world of bridal fashion. I am personally attracted to contrasts and an unexpected combination of fabrics and styles. Innovation is a part of our lives, and I can’t imagine the bridal industry without innovation. It’s like the fashion industry wouldn’t exist without innovation and changes in every season.
I love the combinations of simplicity and sophistication, Hollywood glam and street wear, rock style and romantic vintage feel, these are the combinations that we are trying to bring to our designs.
I’m obsessed with all things “special”, and in order to be special on your wedding day, you must bring something a little unexpected. That’s the basic idea of our work!
Praise Wedding: Tell us about your latest collection! What was the inspiration behind this collection?
Zahavit Tshuba: The inspiration came from the bohemian style in the 70’s, where you could see the combinations of glamour look with flawy and sexy designs.
These are feelings you get from Italian and French movies and the music industry; the same free-spirit atmosphere affect the fashion industry as well. My work was always influenced by that free spirited style.
I love to use crocheted lace and the open cleavage with loose and unfitted cuts that you could see on famous celebrities in the 60’s and 70’s.
Praise Wedding: If you could describe a bride wearing one of the dresses from your latest collection in one phrase, what would it be?
Zahavit Tshuba: A free spirit bride!
Praise Wedding: You are based in Israel, does the culture influence your creations in any way?
Zahavit Tshuba: Israel is a beautiful county with the best weather. Our studio is on the north beach of Tel Aviv and it has definitely influenced our work. There is nothing more spiritual than working with the sea view, having a vacation-like atmosphere in everyday life.
As a designer who travelled a lot, I was also exposed to many different cultures, views, colors and materials. My home country may not be the place that inspired me the most, for those travel experiences also shaped my unique style.
Praise Wedding: Do you have a favorite dress that you have created thus far?
Zahavit Tshuba: It’s very difficult to pick a certain design that I love the most. I love the simplicity and sophistication in every design. Even if it’s the most exclusive and glamour dress, the overall look and cutting must be simple.
I find this combination of contrast especially strong on the Lucia and Lola dresses.
The Lucia dress (above) has the bohemian sexy look, and the Lola dress (below) has the contrast between sophistication and simplicity. I can say that those are my favorites in my latest collection.
Praise Wedding: What are your favorite fabrics to work with? Do you have a favorite cut or shape?
Zahavit Tshuba: I love plain silk fabrics combined with a vintage kind of handmade crocheted lace that look like they have a story behind them. It’s not just the fabrics, you can feel the nostalgia in it.
I find it much more challenging for me as a designer, to make a collection with plain fabrics, than designing a dress with a rich beaded lace fabric, which from the first place looks like you don’t need so much effort to turn it to a rich dress.
However, When making a collection with plain fabrics, you need to invest the energy on a sophisticated design, you are actually sculpturing a dress from a plain material, and than you need to be very creative in order to make it look rich by using handmade lace and embellishments. I find this much more interesting than using common lace fabrics.
I think a bridal collection must include all kinds of cuts and shapes, in order to be available for different body types. This is the reason why you can find a lot of tw- pieces dresses in our collection. It gives more options to brides to mix and match and find the best combination for their body type.
Praise Wedding: Tell us about your design process! How do you decide on the names of your dresses?
Zahavit Tshuba: My mind and soul are always in the design process, day and night. Sometimes ideas are inspired from the little things in my daily life, while others may come from looking at fabrics that I love.
The most important thing in my design process is to come up with something different, new, and fresh; something my brides have never seen before in other places. Our brides don’t just follow common trends, they are looking to try something new; therefore, we have been trying to name the dresses after our brave real brides!
Praise Wedding: What is your favorite bridal trend now? What are next season’s trends?
Zahavit Tshuba: Nude and blush color palettes combined with transparent tulle and net fabrics are my favorite for bridal dresses.
Soft powder and nude colors are still going to influence our next collection. It will be mixed with layers of soft tull and silk fabrics with a sophisticated combinations of beads work, an antique style crochet lace motives and fine crystals embellishments.
Praise Wedding: Do you offer custom designs? What advice would you give to a bride-to-be?
Zahavit Tshuba: Besides of our new collaboration with worldwide boutiques, we have a custom-made section in our studio in Tel Aviv.
Although you can’t find our studio worldwide, we are working with many brides from all over the world who send us their measurements for custom-made gowns! We work with each bride step by step until the dress is ready to ship.
The best advise I want to give to a bride-to-be, after working with so many brides from different cultures, is that you should only listen to yourself! Your own taste is what’s important when choosing your wedding dress, do not be afraid to be a little different!
