Motivation & inspiration behind the shoot
Andrea Kuehnis:Getting married in the winter has something magical; however, in Switzerland, winter weddings are rare. Although sunny days are never a guarantee for summer in Switzerland, most couples are very concerned about the “cold, wet winter days”. Whenever I start to talk about winter weddings, concerns like “I don’t want to get wet”, “It’s too cold I don’t know what to wear”, and “there are no flowers and greens” would arise.
I am typical swiss – I love the snow and the cold. I’m always stunned by the beauty this season shows when snowflakes fall down to earth and the landscape is covered with a white blanket. I wanted to show them how magical and breathtaking a winter bride can be. There are many advantages of a winter wedding, such as booking availability, creative designs, and unique styles and scenery. I wanted to share my love for the winter with my couples and help them visualize the beauty of a winter wedding. Both women in this styled shoot are real brides, and their beauty is natural and realistic.
I always wanted to shoot in the winter, and this styled shoot certainly satisfied my desire. Thanks to everyone who helped making my dream come true!
Challenges
Andrea Kuehnis: Organizing such a big shoot for the first time was challenging. I feel very blessed that every professional I approached said yes immediately and wanted to be part of this project.
Finding the best date, the right brides, and the perfect location for the shoot were not easy. We had to find a snowy place that allowed cars, and with a hotel nearby for us to rest and eat. Once the date was fixed, we could only pray that everything would work out just fine – the flowers would be delivered on time, no one would get sick, and that it won’t be raining. Walking and changing accessories in the snow was also a bit challenging, but everything turned out very well and we had just the perfect amount of snow to create our winter fairytale style shoot.
About Andrea Kuehnis Photography
I am a Switzerland-based wedding photographer. I started photographing when I was a teenager, and became a professional photographer in 2011. I love to show people the beauty I see through my lens, and this passion keeps growing stronger everyday.
I love destination weddings and shooting in different countries, so far my weddings have taken me to Maldives, Santorini, Italy and Austria. My couples are very important to me. I believe that a wedding should be unique and personal to the couple, and I feel truly honored to be able to capture the most wonderful and personal day of their lives.
